Brassica Nigra (black mustard)
Santa Monica Mountains, and the Malibu area were completely devastated, and burned out in the Woolsey Fire Nov. 2018. I've called these mountains home for a long time now, and they are very dear to me. Since the heavy rains of this unusually wet California winter, these once chard, and barren mountains are now an endless field of Black Mustard plant, and migrating butterflies. Brassica Nigra comes from North Africa, and is invasive to the USA. It was introduced here by the Franciscan Padres who scattered the seed along the Camino Real to mark its route.
